A My Name Is Andrew ...

And from the very start
I came into this world with a broken heart
while still in the womb the doctors did detect
that I would be born with an uncommon birth defect

I am under developed and missing a major part
and a lot of work needs to be done on my little fragile heart
Although my defect is fairly rare
It just means I need a little extra tender loving care

But don't you worry and don't you cry
I know there is a chance that I may die
and when your eyes start to water and tears start to fall
Just remember I'm here with you going through it all

You are not alone, others suffer from the same
In other cities and countries with different faces and names
with these people a common ground we do share
the same fear, the same pain and the same nightly prayer

I know you become discouraged when my health starts to fade
But look at the bright side, I'm the precious baby you made
I may not be perfect but you made me through love
I am the gift sent down to you from the Heavens above

I hope that you know through the laughter in my voice
that I will continue fighting by sheer will, want and by choice
I have no intentions of leaving you now
I will prove it to you in time some way, somehow

So that I may live my dream of walking through the sand
with my mother, father and brother fighting to hold my hand
I will give you my courage, I will give you my strength
All I ask for is a little hope and faith

So hold me close and hold me tight
cradle and comfort me when I cry at night
and when the sun rises casting shadows on the ground
look up into the light instead of looking down

OUR PRAYER

We prayed a long time
asking God for you.
we shared our dreams
And cried to Him, too.
He listened and answered
our prayerful plea,
and that's when He gave you
to your dad and me!

A MOTHER'S HEART

I loved you from the very start, You stole my breath, embraced my heart. Our life together has begun, You're part of me my little one. As mother with child, each day I grew, My mind was filled with thoughts of you. I'd daydream of the things we'd share, Like late-night bottles & teddy bears. Like first steps & skinned knees, Like bedtime stories & ABCs. I thought of things you'd want to know, Like how birds fly & flowers grow. I thought of lessons I'd need to share, Like standing tall & playing fair. When I first saw your precious face, I prayed your life be touched with grace. I thanked the angels from above, And promised you unending love. Each night I lay you down to sleep, I gently kiss your head & cheek. I count your little fingers & toes, I memorize your eyes & nose. I linger at your nursery door, Awed each day I love you more. Through misty eyes, I dim the light, I whisper "I love you" every night. I loved you from the very start, You stole my breath, embraced my heart. As mother & child our journey's begun, My heart's yours forever little one.
